The Blowsoc committee is made up of 17 elected members who are in charge of the running of the society. Below you can find links to each of the members on the committee, here you will find out a little bit about them and also a link to their contact details which can also be found on the "Contact Us" page

President: Neal Osgood

Neal

Hi I'm Neal and I’m a third year music student. I live, eat, and sleep in the music department so please if you see me, come talk to me! I’m into music, sports, sleeping and food (in no particular order). My favourite activities will always involve music and socialising, and Blowsoc is by far the best society in the world at marrying those two things together. So get along to a rehearsal, but just as importantly get along to the social afterwards, and join us on tour for what will quite possibly be the best week of your life!

As President my job is quite simple, I help this year’s amazingly dedicated committee to do their job as well as possible and to push them to see that the society is always moving forward and continues to be one of the best societies at Nottingham University (a fact not an opinion!).

It’s going to be a great year so get involved!

Vice-President: Charlotte Daniel Charlotte Daniels

Hi, I’m Charlotte and I am your Vice-President for 08-09!  I’m a music student going into my third and final year, so I will normally be found hanging around the music department for endless reams of rehearsals and of course the essential common room time between our small array of lectures..!  This is my second year on the committee of Blowsoc and I can honestly say that being involved in this society is by far what I enjoy the most at uni.  We have an amazing social life which I love being a part of – you will find me at every single social without fail and funnily enough, always with a drink in my hand...

As your Vice-President for this year I am responsible for things like Leavers’ Cabaret and Freshers Fayre, along with helping to oversee the running of our fabulous small ensembles.  I will also be conducting our Flute Choir this year so you may also see me waving my hands around hopelessly in our concerts!  Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Treasurer: Thomas Jackson

I’m Tom, part of the medic posse of the Blowsoc committee. My general brief as treasurer is to preventing the society becoming the next Lehmann Bros, but mostly I sign forms so that members can be reimbursed for their contributions to the society.
Having spent most of my life living in Hong Kong I count myself as the token international member of the committee – before the webmaster protests: Wales is still part of Britain!
Following my weekly tootle on my Clarinet each Wednesday I am to be found in Mooch sampling their beers – would be great to see you all there!

Publicity Officer: Joanna Neal

Hi, I’m Jo and your Publicity Officer for 08/09! I’m a third and final year studying History and Russian and East European Civilisations (bit of a mouthful and quite random I know!). I play the trumpet in Wind Orchestra, and have been a member of Blowsoc right from my first year. Other interests of mine include sleeping, tea drinking and declaring my love for Sarf East London.

Being publicity officer involves publicising all the concerts that Blowsoc puts on over the year. So bring along all your family and friends to concerts and we won’t have any issues! I also publicise social events and charity events that Blowsoc take part in such as the grade-one-athon. In addition I organise polo shirts for committee members, conductors and everyone that comes on the Easter tour and also the big exciting Blowsoc hoodies.

Tour Manager: Claire Game

Hi, I’m Claire and I am the tour manager for Blowsoc this year. I play the sax, study music and come from the beautiful county of Essex where I work with my blonde hair, fake tan and white stilettos on a farm.

As this years tour manager I hope to sort u all out with an incredible and unforgettable week that will hopefully go down as one of your best at University…..!!!!

Social Sec: Daniel Cashin

Hi I'm Daniel Cashin, a third year geographer and most importantly blowsoc social sec for 08/09.
As a cheeky northern monkey and proud mancunian, my main aims are to promote alcohol and non-alcohol induced banter throughout the year and ensure that blowsoc perform as well on the football pitch as they do in the bar.

Apart from honing my infamous trumpet skills, I enjoy nothing more than an evening session at the kareoke bar usually preceded by a curry and several beers.

Wind Orchestra Personnel Manager: Georgina Diamond

Hi guys, I’m Georgina and I’m a third year medic…woo only 3 more years to go!  I’m also your Wind Orchestra Personnel Manager for this year so any questions about the people side of orchestra be it auditions, missing rehearsals, socials, I’m the person to speak to.  Aside from playing the saxophone (possibly the best instrument ever invented!!!), I enjoy playing the piano and clarinet, cycling, working backstage in the New Theatre, obviously medicine related stuff…and eating Haribo!
Looking forward to meeting everyone J

ClarinSarahet Ensemble Manager: Sarah Hopton

Hi, I’m Sarah and I’m your Clarinet Ensemble manager for Blowsoc 08-09! I’m in the fourth year of my Maths degree and enjoy many activities, including fell-walking in the Lakes, singing in Uni Choir, learning a little bit of Latin & Ballroom dancing and swimming! I’ve played the flute for years but started the clarinet last year and enjoyed being in Clarinet Ensemble so much that I ran for manager!

As Clarinet Ensemble manager, I sort out socials, arrange/buy repertoire, organise rehearsals and concerts, represent the ensemble in committee decisions and make everyone feel welcome! I’m really enjoying being so involved in Blowsoc; it’s a great society so come see what all the fuss is about!

Saxophone Ensemble Manager: Mim Etchells

Hey! I'm Mim, the Saxophone Ensemble Manager for this year. I'm a second year music student, and, as my title suggests, I'm play the saxophone. I live just outside London, as apparently does most of the Nottingham student body, but Nottingham, and the music department specifially has definitely become my home! You can almost certainly find me in music if ever you need me!
As Sax Ensemble Manager I'm in charge of the wonderful little group, organising everything from music and concerts to socials, of which there will be many! I hope to maintain, and build on, the community spirit we have in Saxes and put on some great concerts this year. Come check us out!

Flute Choir Manager: Laura Simpson

Hello everyone! I’m Laura and I’m a second year Music student. Obviously my main passion is music; I’ve been playing the flute for about eleven years now, and I also like to sing and play the piano. Aside from this I enjoy walking and generally being outdoors.

As Blowsoc’s Flute Choir Manager I am (unsurprisingly!) responsible for the general running of Flute Choir, whether it be choosing suitable music, communicating with members or preparing for concerts. But most importantly, my role is to ensure that flute choir remains both a welcoming and enjoyable ensemble!

Double Reed Ensemble Manager: Amy Daniel

Hi, I’m Amy and I’m a second year maths student – as are a few others in the group, but this doesn’t make the group any less fun!  Last year we played some great pieces including Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park, and I’ll try to make sure this year lives up to the same standards.
As manager I’m in charge of making sure we have snacks for the break in rehearsals and arranging socials for everyone as well as making sure we have enough music to play and playing it in concerts.  As well as playing the oboe, you can often find me cycling because I’m too impatient to walk places!
